Koforidua, March 13, GNA- The counsel for the accused, Mr. Joseph Vorsah, charged with assaulting a public officer during the NDC national congress in December, on Monday, prayed the court to discharge his client because he had no case to answer. The counsel Mr E.K Nyanudor, submitted that, following the statement given by a witness in the case that the police did not conduct investigations into the charge against his client and also there were contradicting statements given by the witnesses.
A witness at Monday's hearing, Detective Sergeant Mark Andrews Ankoma of the Koforidua Central Police station said, on December 24, while on duty, he was asked by the Regional Crime Officer, ASP Eklu, to investigate a case of causing damage to public property on the accused. He said he took caution statement from the accused who denied all charges levelled against him and was therefore granted a police enquiry bail. Sgt Ankoma said on December 29, he was again instructed by ASP Eklu, to conduct investigations into offensive conduct and assault of a public officer on the accused.
During cross-examination of the witness by the counsel, he maintained that no investigation was conducted into any of the charges, including the assault of a public officer for which the accused was being tried. The Court, presided over by Mr Justice V.G.K. Ayimeh, asked counsel to file a submission of no case to that effect for consideration. Counsel, therefore, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable him file the submission on April 7.
