Daniel YaO Domelevo (L) opens up about private conversation with President John Dramani Mahama
A former Auditor-General (A-G), Daniel Yao Domelevo, has reportedly opened up about a supposed private conversation he had with the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking in a recent interview on Nhyira FM, Domelevo indicated that the conversation centred on Ghanaians' expectations and what might happen if President Mahama ‘fails’ the nation.
He said that he told the president that the reaction of Ghanaians to the presence of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, during the presidential investiture in January 2025, showed that they are not interested in the country being merely a democracy.
He added that he told Mahama that the people of Ghana want a president who would bring development to the country.
“I told the president that Ghanaians are looking for leadership and not democracy. And so he should be careful he does not give us democracy.
“Do you know what he told me? He said that ‘his research has shown that if he fails, there would be a coup in Ghana.’ These were the words from his mouth. He said there would be a coup soon if he fails because he has realised that Ghanaians like the military approach; they want to see things happening at a faster pace,” he said.
There's a lot of 'garbage' in the data we received - Domelevo on ORAL
The former A-G added that the other thing President John Dramani Mahama told him that shocked him was that he (Mahama) and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo could face a firing squad if he (Mahama) fails.
“He added that ‘if that coup happens, all the former presidents would be taken to the firing squad and shot one by one.’ He said this and added, ‘Rawlings and Atta Mills are fortunate because they are dead, but those of them alive would not go scot-free’,” he added.
Daniel Yao Domelevo also said that from Mahama’s actions and demeanour, he is confident that the president will not disappoint Ghanaians.
