A businessman and his wife have filed a writ at a High Court in Kumasi against the Reverend Joshua Adjei, head pastor and Founder of Bread of Life Ministry, and the Management of ASH FM, a private FM station in Kumasi, for defamation.

Mr and Mrs Alex Adjei Tawiah, proprietors of Selewa Enterprises, dealers in suiting materials and alcoholic beverages, are claiming 50 million cedis in damages.

The writ, which was filed on behalf of the plaintiffs by Mr Dennis Adjei, lawyer, stated that on Monday, March 12, Rev. Adjei mounted a platform in front of shops belonging to the plaintiffs at Adum in Kumasi and the couples reported the matter to the police who asked Rev. Adjei to leave the area.

The writ said in the evening of the following day, during a programme on ASH FM, Rev. Adjei, who was a contributor, allegedly cast insinuations and used uncomplimentary remarks against the plaintiffs.

Rev. Adjei, allegedly insulted and described Mrs Tawiah as a prostitute and a witch and that she and her husband were using 'juju' in their business. The plaintiffs said because of the defamatory statements made against them, their customers as well as friends have not only failed to patronise their shop but also shunned their company.

The conduct of the defendant, therefore, was unlawful, the writ stated. The plaintiffs in their statement of claim are seeking the court's order for perpetual injunction to restrain the defendants from making further slanderous statements against them.
