Couple granted 50 million cedis bail for inflicting cutlass wounds

Tema, Aug.3, GNA - Tema Circuit Court 'A', has granted a couple, a bail of 50 million cedis with two sureties, for allegedly slashing a labourer with a cutlass. Anthony Kwaku Wegbe and Grace Wegbe pleaded not guilty and will reappear on August 9, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Sarah Aggrey Acquah, told the Court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, that at about 1000 hours on June 28, 2004, the complainant, John Moses, was assisting a mason at Adjei Kojo community to construct a fence wall. She said Anthony who claimed ownership of the plot of land pulled down the wall. Inspector Acquah said the complainant approached Anthony to demand reasons for his action and in the process the couple picked up cutlasses and inflicted wounds on him.

John was rushed to a health centre at Ashaiman where he was admitted. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the couple.
