Couples remanded for causing harm to a woman

The Akim Swedru Circuit Court has remanded a man and wife in Police custody for injuring a woman in the leg.

Yaw Ntiamoah and Dora Asoa, farmers pleaded not guilty to causing unlawful harm and abetment of crime when they appeared before the presiding judge, Mr Yaw Atta Sampong and would reappear on May 13, 2013.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Inspector Fabian Sallah said Madam Leticia Ankomah, a seamstress, also the victim, lives at Akim Manso with the accused persons.

According to the Inspector, there was litigation between Ntiamoah and the complainant’s mother over where she had planted plantains and that on March 31, this year, a rainstorm caused one of the plantain trees to fall on the roof of the accused’s building.

The prosecutor said Ntiamoah became infuriated and destroyed 18 of the trees leaving the one on the roofing, but in the absence of Ntiamoah, Madam Ankomah cut the tree and the wife became furious and pushed her to the ground which led to the severe twist of the left leg.

Inspector Sallah said the victim was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital and later referred to the St Joseph’s Hospital, Koforidua for treatment.

The matter was later reported to the Police, and the couples were arrested.
