Court bonds student for gross indiscipline

The Akim Oda Magistrate Court in the Eastern Region has bonded an 18-year-old student, Jennifer Kumiwa Amoa to be of good behavior for six months for insulting two elderly people.

Kumiwa Amoa pleaded guilty to the offensive conduct conducive in breach of the peace and threat of harm.

She insulted the two elderly people who have asked her to pick mango peels she scattered around.

The court said if the convict fails to execute the bond, she would pay GH¢200.00 or serve 12 months prison term in hard labour.

The presiding judge, Mr Albert Owusu Annor issued a bench warrant for the arrest of an accomplice, Akwasi Asante, the brother of Kumiwa who is on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court that Madam Abena Dansoa and Mr Solomon Takyi are the complainants who live with Amoa at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District.

Inspector Appiah said around 1640 hours on April 30, Amoa peeled some mangoes and threw the waste on the corridors of Madam Dansoa and Mr Takyi and when she was asked by Mr Takyi to collect them; she told him that he was stupid, foolish and a dirty man.

According to Inspector Appiah, the convict did not spare Madam Dansoa when she intervened and told her that she was a foolish woman and a prostitute

He said the brother of the convict also rushed on the complainants with scissors and stones and in the process destroyed Madam Dansoa’s five louvre blades estimated at GH¢80.00 and damaged Mr Takyi’s trap door estimated at GH¢20.00.

Inspector Appiah said inspite of the damages caused, Asante again threatened to kill the complainants who had by then locked themselves up in their rooms.

He said when Madam Dansoa was making his way to make a report to the police, Asante crossed her and beat her up severely.

The convict was arrested whilst Asante manage to abscond.**
