Court convicts labourers for stealing plywood

Akim Oda (E/R) July 18, GNA – The Akim Oda Magistrate Court has fined two labourers GH¢200 each for stealing 12 pieces of plywood worth GH¢180 belonging to A.K. Ghana Wood Limited.

They are Eric Essien, 36, and Gershon Anku, 21, whilst Kwasi Oppong, an accomplice who is on the run stole four pieces of the plywood valued GH¢60.

Essien and Anku would serve 18months in prison each in hard labour in default.

Briefing the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang, said a chief security officer of the company at Akim Manso, is the complainant while Essien and Anku are labourers of the company.

She said the company detected the theft of the number of plywood and on May 19, a witness in the case saw Essien and Anku carrying some of the plywood to a nearby bush.

At about 0500 hours on the same day Oppong, was spotted by the Chief Security officer carrying four pieces of plywood worth GH¢60 into the bush.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang, said when the alarm was raised Oppong took to his heels, however the Management of the company was informed leading to the arrest of the convicts.
