Akyem Swedru (E/R), Oct 21, GNA - An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Friday convicted Adwoa Wiafe, a 22-year-old trader, to a fine of 2.5 million cedis for causing harm.

She will go to jail for two years if she fails to pay the fine. The court ordered that 500,000 cedis of the fine should be given to the complainant as compensation.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah, that both the complainant and the convict were traders at Akyem Oda.

He said about a month ago, the two went to Togo to buy goods for sale and while on their return journey, the complainant borrowed 5,000 cedis from Wiafe to buy sanitary pad.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo said after a few days, Wiafe demanded 15 million cedis, instead of the 5,000 cedis from the complainant as the amount to be paid to her.

He said on August 25, this year, Wiafe went to the complainant's store at about 1830 hours and threatened to use 93all means possible at her disposal=94 to collect her money.

She subsequently stormed the complainant's store, dragged her out and brutally assaulted, leaving multiple cuts on her neck and body. The prosecution said Wiafe also destroyed plastic chairs, bottles of perfume and a glass showcase, all valued at about 155,000 cedis in the store.
