Court fines TV mechanic for fraud
Kumasi, Oct 13, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Tuesday fined a television mechanic three million cedis for fraud by false pretences. Sylas Dankwah, who pleaded guilty, will serve a three-year jail sentence in default. He was said to have defrauded Daniel Owusu of 15 million cedis. Police chief Inspector Kuffour Boateng told the court that in December last year Dankwah, who is a member of the Bethel Church at Kentinkrono, approached Owusu and told him that Bishop Blankson, leader and founder of the church, had revealed to him that he (complainant) was born to be a great man but this had been erased by witches. He said the Bishop therefore had asked him to pay the amount for special prayers.
The prosecutor said the accused later told the complainant that the Bishop who was then abroad had asked that the complainant meet him at the Kotoka International Airport on July 1, 2004 for special prayers and blessing. The complainant, the prosecutor said, went to Accra and to the Airport and waited but the Bishop did not show up. Consequently, he said, a report was made to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) police who arrested him. 13 Oct 03
