Court fines driver GH¢1,520.00 for careless driving

Accra, March 1, GNA – The Madina Magistrate Court on Tuesday fined George Bumode a driver GH¢1,520.00 for careless driving and negligently causing harm to Kofi Kanjago, a truck pusher.

The convict would serve eight months jail term in hard labour in default.

Police Chief Inspector Agnes Boafo told the court presided over by Mrs Juliana Samo, that about 1115 hours on February 20 Bumode was driving a bus from Madina Lorry Station heading towards the Madina New Road and on reaching the intersection, the driver failed to observe traffic movement and knocked down the truck pusher.

The victim who sustained serious wounds was rushed to the Legon Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile the Deputy Commander of the Madina Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police Charles Ahiamale had appealed to drivers to exercise restraint while behind the steering wheel and cautioned passengers to desist from talking to drivers to distract their attention.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview.
