Court fines driver for assaulting his mother

Awutu, April 15, GNA- A district magistrate's court at Awutu in the Central Region, on Tuesday sentenced Kobina Ogyam, driver, to a fine of 1,000 Ghana Cedis for physically assaulting Madam Adwoa Namoaleh, his mother. In default, Ogyam, who pleaded guilty for unlawfully assaulting the victim, would serve go to jail for Six months in hard labour.

The court ordered that if the fine is paid, 800 Ghana Cedis should be given to Madam Namoaleh. Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori told the court presided over by Judge Mr Kofi Ahiabor that on March 30, this year, the accused began putting up a building on his late uncle's land.

Prosecution said Madam Namoaleh asked the accused to stop the project since it could result in a misunderstanding between family members. Chief Inspector Ofori said the accused become offended by the advice, slapped the mother in the face and pushed her onto cemented floor.
