Court fines farmer GH¢200 for assaulting pregnant woman

Akim Oda (E/R) July 18, GNA – A magistrate court in the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region, has fined Isaac Kwadwo Wutor, a farmer GH¢200 for beating up Madam Akosua Serwaa, a pregnant woman.

Wutor, 35, who pleaded guilty to causing unlawful harm was ordered by the court to pay an additional GH¢200 to compensate the victim.

In default the convict would serve 18 months jail term.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang, told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, that Madam Serwaa, lives at Akim Aduasa with her husband Mr Kofi Okyere, who is a witness in the case as well as the convict.

She said at about 1430 hours on June 16, Madam Serwaa was in front of her kitchen with her husband when Wutor appeared at the scene and confronted her for gossiping about him to his wife.

The convict hit the complainant with a stone on her forehead after he had kicked her from her seat.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Madam Serwaa reported the case to the Police leading to the arrest of Wutor from his hide out on June 26.
