The Nkawie Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Frank Afriyie has sentenced an insolent conductor (driver’s mate) to a fine of GH¢360.00.

Kwabena Asamoah, who was arrested for insulting a police officer, would serve 12 months in prison, if he fails to pay the money.

He had pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court that the convict, a conductor of a mini-bus and the driver of the said bus had picked some passengers to Bibiani from Kumasi on September 19 at about 1630 hours.

Midway through the journey, precisely at Adiembra, Asamoah told the driver to discontinue and return to Kumasi because they could not get the full complement of passengers.

The driver stopped the vehicle and the convict ordered the travelers to alight and look for another bus to continue the trip.

They asked for a refund of part of the fare paid for the journey but Asamoah would have none of that and this generated heated verbal exchanges.

Police Inspector Alex Siaw of the Adiembra Police Station was attracted to the scene where he advised the driver to look for another vehicle for the travelers and to give back a part of the fare collected from them that would be enough to take them to their destination.

The intervention of the police officer infuriated Asamoah, who rained insults on him. He was arrested and charged with the offence.
