Goaso (B/A), Aug. 1, GNA- A circuit court at Goaso in Brong Ahafo Region has sentenced Isaac Darko alias Mogabe to a fine of GHC 200 for assaulting a journalist.

The convict, who pleaded guilty would go to jail for two months in default.

Police Chief Inspector Charles Arthur told the court presided over by Mr. Charles Quampah that the complainant, Mr Asafoagyei Davidson was a news editor of Success FM, a private radio station at Goaso, whilst the convict was a sawmiller at Mim. He said on July 20, this year, the Asunafo North constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), invited the Managing Director of the FM station, Mr. Michael Agyei, to a fund raising rally in support of the party's campaign for the 2008 Election.

Chief Inspector Arthur said Mr. Agyei could not attend the function and asked his son, Kwaku Agyei, Asafoagyei and Mr. Cephas Charles Danquah, General Manager of the station to represent him. He said the complainant and other two persons donated GHC 100 at the event and the convict confronted Mr. Asafoagyei and asked him of his mission there since he had nothing good to offer the NPP. Prosecution said the confrontation attracted a number of people and in the midst of the confusion the convict assaulted Mr. Asafoagyei.
