Mankranso (Ash), Oct. 19, GNA - A magistrate's court at Mankranso on Monday imposed one million cedi fine on a trader and her daughter for insulting a police officer.

Kate Mullings, 37, and Doreen Adwoa Owusuaa Boadi, 25, a student, pleaded guilty.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Gabienu told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that Detective Constable Joshua Asare, the complainant, is stationed at Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti. He said at about 1700 hours on October 9, this year, a taxi driver approached the complainant and told him that the accused insulted him for not stopping at a Mobil filling station for them to alight but rather stopped at the new lorry park at Abuakwa.

ASP Gabienu said the complainant identified himself when he approached the accused persons and told them it was unlawful for drivers to stop at the filling station since there was a new Lorry Park. The prosecution said in spite of this explanation, the accused persons turned on the complainant and rained insults on him and told him that they would ensure his dismissal from the Police Service since their father was a high-ranking police officer in Accra. He said the complainant then called for support and so a uniformed policeman went and arrested the accused persons and after investigations charged them with the offence.
