Court grants bail to Arsonist

Emmanuel Armo-Ackah who allegedly set a premix fuel station ablaze, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 20,000, with two sureties to be justified, by the Half Assini Magistrate Court.

He pleaded guilty with explanation to causing unlawful damage, but the court presided over by Mr Hans Kpogo changed his plea to not guilty. Armo-Ackah also known as Eyga Mozu, will re-appear in court in a month’s time.

Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Kumi, had earlier stated that the premix station was sited on his mother’s land at Half-Assini and that the sister of the accused person was the only person collecting the rent.

He said the accused person went there to collect the monthly rent, but was told his sister had come for it. This did not go down well with the accused person, and he allegedly threatened to take any action.

Inspector Kumi said not quite long after everybody had left the station, the place was in flames which injured one person and destroyed several items. According to the prosecution, the accused person vanished from the town after the incident, and this raised the suspicion for his involvement in the fire outbreak.

The prosecution said, he was later arrested from his hide-out at Tikobo Number One. The accused person admitted the offence in his caution statement to the Police during interrogation, the prosecution concluded.
