An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday granted a bail of GH?500,000.00 with three sureties each; one each to be justified to two persons for conspiracy to commit crime, stealing, abetment of crime and unlawful entry.
The two, Enoch Kwabena Ofori and Gad Azagodo pleaded not guilty to all charges and were granted bail by the court presided over by Mr Eva Bannerman Williams.
The court however issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Benjamin Ofori for failing to appear before it.
The facts of the case as presented by Police Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey are that the complainant Nii Noi Nortey Joseph is the Manager of G.N.A Home Appliances, residing at Accra whilst Enock, a driver and Gad a security man resides at Mamprobi and Ashaiman respectively.
He said the complainant had some containers containing air conditions at Novel Warehouse at Klagon near Sakumono.
The complainant engaged some security men from Unicon Security Company to guard the goods.
He said on June 13 at about 1830 hours one of the security men then on duty at the warehouse and a witness in the case, were attacked by a group of young men holding knives and guns. They tired the security man with a rope.
The prosecution said the young men broke into three of the containers brought out some of the goods.
Inspector Terpketey told the court that Enoch claimed he was called by one Sulley, the station master of the cargo Trucks Station at Neoplan Station, Accra and now on the ran to bring his cargo truck with registration No.GE 8270 V to convoy the goods to Ejisu, Kumasi.
Inspector Terpketey said Enoch explained that the goods were many and for that matter he should get another cargo in addition to convey them and so he accordingly called Benjamin who also brought his truck with registration number AS 9532 U.
The accused drivers then drove to the warehouse at Klagon. Enoch’s cargo was loaded first with some quantity of air conditioners and he set off from the warehouse.
Benjamin’s cargo truck was also loaded with some of the air conditioners and when he was about to set off, the police arrived at the scene and the young men who broke into the warehouse managed to run away with Benjamin after he had abandoned his truck.
The prosecution said Enoch who was then heading towards Tema Motorway, had the hint that the police were at the warehouse, he abandoned his truck by the road side and bolted.
He told the court that Benjamin later surrendered himself to the police and led the police to arrest Enoch as the one who called him to come and load the goods.
However when the stealing was going on at the warehouse, Gad who is a member of the Unicon Security Company and among those who have been guarding the goods was found hovering around with another security man called Christopher now at large, when they were not on duty at that particular hour and had no business within the vicinity.
Inspector Terkpetey said all efforts made to arrest Christopher and the station master to assist the police investigations had proved futile. The two trucks were escorted to the police station and impounded for investigations.
He said the two trucks were found to containing 103 boxes of the air conditioners worth GH?463,500.00.
