A Tarkwa District Court has granted Nicholas Arhin, a driver, a bail of GH¢2,000.00 with two sureties for conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretence.

The accused pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on January 20.

Prosecuting, Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, told the court, presided over by Mr Jonathan Nunoo, that the complainant, Eugene Osei, is a mobile money transfer operator at Aboso in the Prestea Huni/Valley District and staying in the same area with the accused and one Michael Owusu, who is now at large.

Inspector Anaman said on December 30, last year, around 0900 hours, Arhin, who was a regular customer of the complainant visited him in his shop and asked him to transfer GH¢1,000.00 to his brother.

The prosecution said the accused gave Osei an MTN mobile number which the money was transferred to, afterwards Michael Owusu’s name popped up as the recipient.

She said the complainant then asked Arhin to confirm from Owusu whether he had received the money, which was confirmed.

The Prosecution said the complainant demanded the money, but Arhin refused to refund it.

The complainant reported the matter to the police and Arhin was arrested while the police have mounted a search for the arrest of Owusu.
