Court grants shop assistant 35 million cedis bail

Kumasi, Feb 10, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Wednesday granted a 26-year-old shop assistant 35 million cedis' bail for stealing. Joseph Appiah pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on March 7, 2005.

Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court that Mr Kwabena Agyapong, the complainant, owned an electrical shop at Adum and hired Appiah as a shop assistant.

She said the accused was expected to render accounts on all sales he makes daily to the complainant but he refused to do this. Chief Inspector Dinkyini the complainant took stock of the items in the shop and realised that 10 video cassette compact disks, 14 digital video disks (DVD), 50 radio sets, 20 scientific calculators, 40 tape recorders, three generators and extension wires, all totalling about 35 million cedis were missing.

Appiah said he sold some of the items to customers on credit but he could not lead the police to any of the said customers.
