Court jails Accra Mall thief

Accra, Aug. 20, GNA - A sound engineer, who allegedly tampered with security systems of the Game Discount World at the Accra Mall and made away with mobile phones and other electronic products valued at GH¢29,000, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court. Richard Aidoo pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing and was convicted accordingly.

Police Inspector Michael Jubiok said on July 30, the Management and Security Staff of the Game Discount World, detected the theft of some handy items including three Sony digital cameras, ipods and pen drives which had been removed from a showcase. The prosecutor said a report was made to the Police who in turn commenced investigations.

The prosecution said at about 0800 hours on July 30 when the Company opened the shop to commence the day's activities they detected that the security alarm was not functioning and hence raised the alarm. The security guards closed the shops and ordered staff to conduct a search. In their search, they found Aidoo hiding between standing fridges in the shop and he was apprehended. When he was searched 36 assorted mobile phones were also found on him. The prosecution said when Aidoo was quizzed on how he managed to enter the shop, he said he hid himself in the shop the previous day before the shop was closed and disconnected the security system.

Inspector Jubiok said on July 29, Aidoo broke into the showcase and took away assorted cell phones, two ipods and 36 pen drives, three Sony cameras valued GH¢12,619 and repeated the act on the following day and made away with 36 assorted mobile phones. According to the convict, he sold some of the mobile phones to people at the UTC area in the Central Business District of Accra.
