An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Francis Obiri, has sentenced Kwabena Gharmoh, a driver to five years imprisonment for possessing firearm without lawful authority.
The driver was convicted on his own plea.
Presenting the facts to the court, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu said the complainant in the case was Georgina Abatey, unemployed and resident of Dzorwulu and a girl friend of the convict.
He said on April 5, a misunderstanding ensued between Kwabena and Georgina at an out-dooring ceremony at Agenda, near Omanjor.
He said whilst the complainant was dancing with a certain man, the convict rushed on her, pulled her and started beating her.
The prosecution said some onlookers came to the rescue of the complainant.
Chief Inspector Adu said the convict, who was not satisfied with the intervention, pulled a locally manufactured pistol and threatened to shoot the complainant.
“The convict also attempted to fire the pistol but it could not fire,” he added.
He said the complainant was, therefore, whisked from the scene to the police station, where a complaint was lodged.
