Court jails farmhand over attempted murder

The Bibiani Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Basit Kwadwo Filson, has sentenced a farmhand to 10 years imprisonment over attempted murder.

Kalsum Grumah, 40, faced additional charge of illegal possession of Indian hemp (wee) and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The convict shot and injured his elder brother and wife at Abena-Tiwaa Akuraa near Sefwi-Juaboso with a single-barreled gun.

Police Chief Inspector Lucky Goglomi said the crime was committed on January 19, last year.

The convict, who was living with the victims, Salifu Grumah and Ms Akua Salamatu on a common compound quarreled with his brother but they prevented from fighting

He however returned to the house at about 1900 hours, armed with a gun, fired and injured the couple.

Neighbours rushed to their aid - sent them to Juaboso Government Hospital, where they were later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The convict was arrested with a quantity of dried leaves which proved to be Indian hemp, and handed over to the police.
