Court jails mason 12 months for unlawful damage

Sekondi, April 6 -GNA- A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Thursday sentenced Frank Nyan, a mason who has no permanent place of abode, to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for causing unlawful damage and attempting to steal.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere, said Maame Akubah, the complainant is a manager of Akuafo Adamfo Cocoa Purchasing Company residing at Chapel Hill in Takoradi.

He said about a month ago, when the complainant returned home from work, she detected that some of her personal belongings had been stolen and therefore became vigilant.

Inspector Okyere said at about 1100 hours on March 23 this year, the complainant left the office and went home. He said when she arrived home, complainant found the accused removing metal burglar proof and mosquito net on one of the windows of her residence to enable him to enter the hall.

Inspector Okyere said the accused took to his heels on seeing the complainant but people in the neighbourhood pursued him. He said sensing danger, the accused sought refuge at the Takoradi Central Police Station and he was arrested.

Inspector Okyere said the accused admitted the offence during investigation and mentioned an accomplice but he could not lead the Police to arrest him.
