Kumasi, July 29, GNA - An 18 year-old mason, Yaw Apraku, who defiled a 13- year-old girl, has been jailed seven years by a Kumasi Circuit Court. Yaw Apraku pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour- Kyei told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that both the convict and the victim are residents of Sokoban new site, a suburb of Kumasi. On June 28, the victim, who lives with her father, was sent on an errand but delayed in returning home, compelling the alarmed father to look for her.

The victim's father went to a nearby house where he suspected the girl would be amusing herself with her friends. When he got there he entered a room without knocking and surprisingly saw Apraku busily having sex with her daughter. Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said the girl's father grabbed Apraku and handed him over to the Manhyia Police. The case was transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims' Support Unit of the police, where a medical form was issued to the victim.

Doctors who attended to her confirmed that the girl had been defiled. 29 July 09
