Court jails student 25 years for defilement

Tarkwa (W/R) March 22, -GNA- A 19-year-old student of Amenfiman Secondary School, Wassa Akropong, Enoch Mensah was on Wednesday jailed 25 years for defiling a 15-year-old Junior Secondary school (JSS) girl. A Tarkwa Circuit court, presided over by Mr John Ajet Nasam sentenced him on his own plea.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah of Tarkwa Police said the complainant, Yaw Afari a farmer at Wassa Buraso is the father of the victim. He said both the accused and the victim were friends for about one year now. Chief Inspector Asamoah said on March 4, 2006 at about 1830 hours the accused eloped with the victim to a cottage near Wassa Akropong for two weeks and had sex with her.

The father, Yaw Afari visited the school and her teacher told him that the victim had been absent from school for the past three weeks. Later the father had wind of their hideout and on March 18, 2006 at about 0330 hours traced them to the cottage and found them in the same room. The accused was arrested and handed over to the police. During an interrogation the accused admitted that the victim was his girlfriend for the past one year.
