Court jails two armed robbers

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday handed a 25-year- jail term to two persons who conspired and robbed one Juniana Yakubu.

Paddy Handson, unemployed and William Abeku, driver, were convicted on their own plea would each serve 10 years for conspiracy, and 25 years for robbery. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

They robbed Juniana of one Samsung galaxy phone, worth GH?1,000.00, one projector costing $ 2,000.00, one Toshiba Laptop, $1,000.00, one Galaxy tablet worth GH?1, 200.00 and an amount of GH? 16,000.00.

Their accomplice, Eugene Sakyiamah who was also charged for dishonesty receiving was however granted a bail of GH? 20,000.00 with two sureties to reappear on September 23.

Presiding judge, Mr Francis Obiri said although the convicts pleaded for leniency, robbery is on the increase, and people of such nature must be kept away from the society so that others could live in peace.

Prosecuting Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainant is a house wife and lives at Adjiringanor, while Paddy, William and Eugene live at different locations in Accra.

He said on May 4, at about 0100 hours, Paddy and William with a pump action gun scaled the fence wall of the complainant through an adjacent house under construction and entered the upstairs where the complainant was sleeping.

He said they woke the complainant up and demanded that she surrender the money on her else they would kill her. The complainant cooperated.

The prosecution said the two also went ahead and sold the items to some people including Eugene who bought the galaxy tablet at GH? 250.00.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said on May 29, the two convicts and one Charles Ampoe Jacks now at large decided to go and rob the complainant’s house again, but noticed that her wall had been fortified with an electric wire.

He said in the course of moving around the house, the complainant spotted them through the CCTV camera, fired a warning shot and they run away.

He told the court that on May 30, the two were arrested by the police and they led the personnel to all the houses they had robbed in and around Adjiringanor.

The prosecution said the convicts mentioned Eugene as the receiver of the galaxy tablet and he was also arrested.
