An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced Mumuni Bole, a scrap dealer, and Mohammed Kadiri, unemployed, to 25 years imprisonment each for robbery.

The two will also serve 15 years imprisonment each for conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery.

Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Initially, the two convicts pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Assistant State Attorney Esi Dentaa Yankah told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that on June 7, 2011, at about 0400 hours, the complainant was in her shop at Kokomba market when the convicts came in together and demanded at knife point that she surrenders all her valuables.

She said the convicts took from the complainant GH?3,500 cash in a paint bucket, one pair of jeans shorts, valued at GH?50, and two mobile phones valued at GH?150.

The prosecution said the complainant raised an alarm and the convicts took to their heels with the items.

“Passers-by, attracted by the complainant’s shouts, chased the fleeing men but were only able to apprehend Bole,” she added.

He said Bole led the police to arrest Kadiri, who said they hid the paint bucket containing the GH?3,500 cash in a gutter.

The Assistant State Attorney said, Kadiri led them to the gutter but the money was not found.

She said Kadiri then said that he could not remember where the bucket was.

The money has since not been retrieved.
