Accra, Jan. 22, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Monday ordered the arrest of George Aggudey, Chief Executive Officer of Goldcrest Security Limited, for failing to appear before it to answer a case of non-payment of 8.1 billion cedis as Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions of its workers.
When the case was called, Aggudey, Presidential Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) for the Election 2004, was not in court. He was also not in court when the case was first called on December 11, 2006.
He is facing two counts of failing to pay SSNIT contributions. The facts of the case indicate that an inspection conducted on July 28, 2006 into the wages books of Goldcrest by SSNIT Inspectorate Unit revealed that the Company between January 1995 and June 2205 failed to pay contributions of workers and penalty totalling 8,150,882,076.72 cedis.
The arrears were made up of 3,378,855,762 cedis as the actual amount while 4,772,026,314 was three per cent penalty for delayed payment.
A demand letter was issued on July 28, 2006 but efforts to get the Company to settle the amounts failed thereby swelling the amount to 8,150,882,076.72 cedis.
