Court remands 8 for engaging in cutlass fight at funeral

Eight persons have been remanded into prison custody by an Nkawie Circuit court charged with offensive conduct, threat to harm and using offensive weapons.

The suspects who are all residents of Abuakwa Zongo in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti region were reported to have stormed a funeral grounds of one Mr Frimpong alias Opope 38 years at Abuakwa last weekend, to avenge the assault of a colleague known as Rebel Leader.

According to the police they were reportedly wielding machetes and other life threatening objects and in the process, inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on one Collins Opoku currently on admission at a health facility in the area.

The police were immediately notified but before they arrived at the scene, the suspects fled but they later managed to arrest Abdulai Gabriel known as War Leader and Masawudu Issah also known as Abodie.

Through investigations, Iddrisu Mohammed alias Alqueda 24 years, Musa Alidu 20 years, Abdul Basit 18 years, Shamel Mohammad 24 years, Abdul Shabuku 24 years and Ibrahim Yahaya known as butterfly 19 years were also arrested the following day.

They were subsequently arraigned before the Nkawie Circuit court and have been remanded into prison custody to reappear on 4th May 2017.
