Court remands an unemployed for causing harm

Sekondi, Oct. 24, GNA - A District Magistrate's Court in Sekondi on Monday remanded John Quarcoe, a 36-year old unemployed, into prison custody for causing harm.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on October 30, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Jacob Kwame Siaw said the accused and the complainant, Francis Ansah, are both unemployed and lived at Kwesimintsim.

He said on September 2 this year, the complainant and the accused met for a crab catching expedition at a valley at Apremdo near Takoradi. Inspector Siaw said during the crab expedition, a misunderstanding arose between the two and the accused inflicted severe cutlass wounds on the head of the complainant and bolted.

He said Yaw Abakah, a witness in the case, who met the complainant bleeding profusely in the head, accompanied him to lodge a report at the Kwesimintsim Police Station.

Inspector Siaw said the complainant was issued with a medical form and was taken to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi for treatment.

Inspector Siaw s aid the accused also alleged that the complainant bit his lips and reported at the Kwesimintsim Hospital where he was arrested and the cutlass retrieved from him. He said the accused confessed having committed the offence during interrogation at the hospital. 24 Oct. 06
