Court remands farmer for possessing 29 wrappers of wee

Padmore Kwame Fosuhene, a farmer has been remanded in prison custody by the Akim Swedru Circuit Court for allegedly possessing 29 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in his room.

Fosuhene, 27 pleaded guilty to possessing the leaves without authority and would reappear on January 30.

The docket of the case has been sent to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court presided over by Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that Police personnel from Akim Swedru and Akim Aperade were on operation to arrest some alleged robbers who attacked some traders between Akim Aperade and Duokon.

Inspector Appiah said the Police team missed the robbers and on their way back to their station, they had a tip-off that Fosuhene who lives at Akim Aperade dealt in drugs.

The team went to the suspect house and conducted a search and they retrieved 29 wrappers of the leaves suspected to be Indian hemp which was concealed in his pair of jeans shorts and therefore caused his arrest.

Inspector Appiah said the dried leaves were forwarded to the Police Crime Laboratory and it was certified to be cannabis.

In his caution statement the accused said the hemps were for his personal use and not for sale.
