An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded five persons into police custody for alleged conspiracy to commit crime and stealing 1,280 metres of 100mm/ff cables valued Ghc268, 800.00, belonging to Vodafone Ghana Limited.
The five, Frank Lemdi Prikutse, Alex Duker, Emmanuel Achiayao, Robert Appiah-Mends and Samuel Mensah, pleaded not guilty and were remanded to reappear before the court on May 10.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Jubiok Michaels told the court that the complainant Kweku Paintsil is a private Investigative Intelligence Manager for Vodafone Ghana Limited.
He said Frank, the team manager lives at Ashaiman, Alex, Senior Customer Engineer is at Batsonaa and Emmanuel, Field Engineer is at Spintex.
The rest are Robert and Samuel, field engineers of Vodafone residing at New Fadaman and Nungua.
He said on April 1, one Eva Antwi the Regional Operations Manager detailed Frank to recover 220 metres of the Vodafone redundant underground 1000 mm/ff cables from Teshie-Nungua exchange to be used to undertake repair works within Achimota exchange.
The prosecution said Frank in turn assigned the job to Alex, Emmanuel, Robert and Samuel who undertook the cable recovery under his supervision.
He said on April 2, Corporate Security Department of Vodafone received intelligence that the recovered cables were in excess of 1,280 metres valued Ghc268,800.00, and was sold to a scrap dealer at Ashaiman.
Chief Inspector Michaels said Frank was confronted as to how come the cables were in excess, but he denied knowledge about the excesses.
He said the five were, however, arrested and handed over to the Airport Police for investigation while efforts are being made to arrest the scrap dealer for investigation.
