Court remands five persons for possessing Indian hemp

Kumasi, June 25, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Friday remanded five persons in police custody for possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. They are Rasheed Mohammed, Akwasi Francis, Samuel Opoku, Kwadwo Kadevi and Daniel Tabiri. The pleas of the accused persons were not taken and will re-appear on July 6.

Kumasi, June 25, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court on Friday remanded five persons in police custody for possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. They are Rasheed Mohammed, Akwasi Francis, Samuel Opoku, Kwadwo Kadevi and Daniel Tabiri. The pleas of the accused persons were not taken and will re-appear on July 6. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court presided over by Mr Essel Mensah that, four of the five accused persons were arrested by the police during separate operations at Akwatialine, Asafo and New Tafo (Krofofrom), all suburbs of Kumasi with wrappers of dried leaves. She said Tabiri, who is a beer-bar keeper sold the dried leaves alongside the drinks and was found with a parcel of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Chief Inspector Dinkyini said the leaves had been sent to the police forensic laboratory in Accra for examination. 25 June 05
