Court remands man for escaping with handcuffs

Nyinahin, (Ash), Aug. 16, GNA - An 18 year old youth who was arrested for stealing a mobile phone has been remanded in prison custody by the Nyinahin magistrate court on another charge of escaping from police cells in handcuffs, while being escorted to ease himself. Anthony Kwadwo, accused, who is a driver's mate would re-appear on August 28 this year. His plea was not taken.

Prosecuting Police Inspector Kpaafah told the court, presided over by Mr. Noble Nkrumah that the accused, who stole the mobile phone of his master on August 6 was arrested and put behind bars. He said, while in the cells he asked for permission to ease himself and was thus handcuffed and as he was being escorted by a policeman, he took to his heels, still handcuffed.

Accused was however, arrested at Abuakwa near Nkawie without the handcuff, which is believed to be in the possession of one Kwaku from Otaakrom who allegedly helped to remove it.

The Nyinahin Police has therefore mounted a search for Kwaku to retrieve the handcuff.

Meanwhile, Mr. Noble Nkrumah, the presiding Judge who sits as an additional Circuit Court Judge at Nkawie has appealed for one more prosecutor at the Nyinahin court to reduce the work load of the lone prosecutor.
