Accra, June 3, GNA - A mason who allegedly raped and robbed a 22-year-old
woman after breaking into her marital home on Friday appeared before an Accra
Circuit Court. Isaac Coffie pleaded not guilty to rape and robbery. The court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei-Baffour remanded him into prison
custody to re-appear on June 20.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J.K. Anim said the complainant (name
withheld) lives at Adenta Sakora with her husband, her sister and a two-year-old son. He said the accused lived in the same vicinity, and on April 28 this year, the complainant's husband, a mechanic travelled to Dodowa at about 0100 hours= to repair a broken down vehicle.
The prosecutor said during that time, the victim who was fast asleep felt a tap on
her shoulder and woke up. To her amazement, he saw the accused holding a knife.
He said the accused demanded sex from her but she declined, and this infuriated
the accused who beat her up and threatened to kill her if she declined the request. The prosecutor said the accused pulled out the knife again, pointed it close to her
chest and succeeded in raping her and absconded. He said after the accused had fled, the complainant realised that her television set,
two mobile phones, and GH¢3.50 had been stolen. The prosecutor said the complainant reported the matter to the Police and during
investigations, Coffie was arrested and charged with the offence.
