Court remands student for stealing cocoa beans

Wassa Akropong (W/R), March 21, GNA - A Wassa Akropong District Magistrate's Court at the weekend remanded Ibrahim Forson Blay, a form two student of Half Assini Secondary School, into prison custody for allegedly stealing cocoa beans.

Blay, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on March 30 this year. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John Katapu, said on March 3 this year, the accused person and two accomplices, who are on the run, broke into a shed of Produce Buying Company at Wassa Akropong and made away with two bags of dry cocoa beans, valued at 1,200,000 cedis and a cash of 5,000,000 cedis.

He said the accused person and his accomplices used chisels and hammers to break into the shed and also stole chequebooks and a quantity of weedicide.

Inspector Katapu said the accused person and his accomplices chartered a taxi to convey the items but the taxi driver suspected them of having stolen the items.

He said the driver told them that he would expose them if anybody complains of missing items.

Inspector Katapu said in the morning of the following day, Joseph Torsu, a purchasing clerk of PBC, detected that the shed had been broken into and some items stolen and reported the matter to the Police. He said the accused person was arrested during investigations.
