Court remands two for robbery

Two persons were on Friday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Kwamena Marfo, labourer and Nana Kwame Osei, driver were said to have conspired and robbed one Nana Kweku of his taxi, worth GHC9,000.00.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge but were remanded by the court to reappear on October 26.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kweku Bempah told the Court that the complainant is a taxi driver and resides at Dansoman, while Kwamena is a Labourer, who lives at Kokomlemle and Nana Kweku is a driver, living at Chorkor.

He said on September 12, at about 0130 hours, while the complainant was working with his taxi he was stopped by the accused persons who hired his services from Banana Inn to Kwame Nkrumah Flats.

He said on reaching a section of the road at the Kwame Nkrumah Flats, they asked the complainant to stop so that they could alight, to which he obliged and demanded for his money, but one of them quickly entangles his neck with a rope and the other pulled out a screw driver and threatened to stab him if he did not surrender all monies on him with the car keys.

DSP Bempah told the Court that the complainant became frightened and defenceless and gave out an amount of GHc93.00 to the accused persons, but they still demanded for more. They threw the complainant out of the car and left with the car.

He said on September 21, information received from witnesses in the case revealed that the accused persons were in possession of the said taxi and were on the verge of selling same at Agbogbloshie at the price of GHC1, 000.00.

The prosecution said upon a tipoff the accused persons were arrested and in their caution statement, Kwamena said he saw the said vehicle parked at City Light, Kwame Nkrumah Circle and he informed Nana Kwame about it who advised that they go and sell it to scrap dealers.

He said Nana Kwame admitted that he told the scrap dealers that he had documents covering the vehicle as well as the number plates and could provide them at anytime if only the scrap dealers were ready to buy it.
