Court remands unemployed for theft

Ejisu (Ash), July 11, GNA - The Ejisu magistrate court on Wednesday remanded a 17-year-old school dropout in police custody for theft. Samuel Jersey, who was alleged to have stolen two million cedis, pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear at the Ejisu juvenile court on July 13.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector A. K. Danquah told the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosa that, Jersey lives with his father in the house of Madam Akosua Fosuah, the complainant at Tikrom. He said at about 0730 hours on July 1, this year, the complainant left her door unlocked and went to visit a friend nearby. Chief Inspector Danquah said on her return after about 30 minutes, she entered her room to find it ransacked and her handbag, which contained two million cedis missing.

He said the complainant therefore called the tenants in the house, including the accused and asked them whether they knew something about the theft to which they all replied in the negative.

The prosecutor said the following day, Jersey left the house and this aroused the suspicion of the complainant and during her own investigations, had a tip-off that the accused had gone to his aunt at Abura-Dunkwa in the Central Region.

Chief Inspector Danquah said with the help of the Abura-Dunkwa police, Jersey was traced and arrested and handed over to the Ejisu police and during interrogation, he confessed taking the money and was therefore charged with the offence.
