Court remands unemployed in prison custody

Ejisu (Ash), June 21, GNA - A magistrate court at Ejisu on Tuesday remanded a 20-year-old unemployed in prison custody for stealing. Richard Asante pleaded guilty and will re-appear on Monday, June 27.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector G. D. Torsu told the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmrosa that, the complainant, Osei Hwedie was a trader, who owned a store that was connected with electricity with a metre at the Juaben market. Inspector Torsu said on May 13, this year, the complainant's sister, one Adomaa informed him that the meter had been removed. Inspector Torsu said officials at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said they were not aware of the removal of the meter, when the complainant reported the matter to them. He said the complainant had the hint that Asante stole the meter and was looking for someone to buyer it at the market.

Inspector Torsu said Frank Owusu, the witness was asked to pose as buyer and immediately Asante sold the meter to him at 200,000 cedis, he was then arrested. The accused told the police that one Yaw Sarpong asked him to sell the meter for him, but he could not locate him.
