Court sentences two people to 7 years' imprisonment for stealing

Bolgatanga, Oct 29, GNA - The Bolgatanga Circuit Court, presided over by Justice William Boampong on Tuesday sentenced two people to seven years imprisonment each with hard labour for stealing from a contractor, Mr. Hakeem Dawuda.

The two accused persons are Issah Abisike, unemployed and Emmanuel Abane, a carpenter, both living in the same community, Kalbeon, a suburb of Bolgatanga. Prosecuting, Detective Inspector John Adjea, said the complainant, Hakeem Dawuda, a general contractor, who had a large yard containing his working materials including metals for stone quarrying, last September discovered that some of his tools had been stolen and informed his driver about it.

He noted that the accused persons took advantage of the contractor and his workers' absence from the stone quarry yard and stole the items.

He said the contractor's driver on his way to the Bolgatanga Lorry Park, on 18th September

2009, discovered one of the stolen metals with Abane who was then sending the metal to a

wielder's shop. He confronted him and later arrested and sent him to the Police Station. According to the Prosecutor, within a matter of five minutes, the wielder of the shop reported

to the Police that Abisika had brought a metal to sell to him, which led to his arrest. In their cautioned statements, they both pleaded guilty to the offence and were sentenced.
