A Wa Circuit Court has slapped a GH¢ 51,000 judgment debt on the District Health Management Team (DHMT) of the Sissala West district for breach of contract.

According Balu Mohammed of Tumu Radford Fm, the Member of Parliament (MP) elect for the area Ridwan Abass Dauda secured the judgment after the facility improperly abrogated a building contract with him in 2012.

The court therefore directed he facility to pay up the amount or have its properties attached in order to be auctioned to settle its indebtedness to the applicant.

Ridwan Abass Dauda revealed that in 2013, his company was awarded a contract to renovate a hall and complete two offices for the use of the Gwollu hospital at the cost of GH¢59,000.00.

After completing part of the job, he was given GH¢17,170.00 and since then work has stalled.

He was left with doors, painting and other minor works to finalize whole project and demanded from the directorate an advanced payment of GH¢5000.00 so he could complete the project and hand over and wait till the facility was ready to settle the rest of the amount owed. This he said was ignored until after some months, he saw another contractor working on the same project which he claims had been repackaged to the tune of GH¢84,000.00.

“I drew the attention of the authorities citing the absence of a letter of termination where my difference could be worked out for me .I later took the case to court where and on three occasions the directorate failed to show up in court making the judge to award a cost of GH¢51,000.00 to the DHMT”

Mr Rid, as affectionately called, stated several letters sent to the directorate did not receive attention

Meanwhile management of the facility has revealed that it will seek an alternative dispute resolution in addressing the matter expressing fear that any action to enforce the decision of the court might affect health care delivery in the Sissala West District.
