The Judiciary will open the High Court today, June 3, for live media coverage of proceedings related to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill. This decision follows the Chief Justice's previous ruling that allowed media houses to livestream the hearing of Richard Sky’s injunction application on the same bill.

The Judicial Service has now extended this access to all cases connected to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

This move comes after the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, urged the Chief Justice to permit live coverage of these proceedings.

In his letter to the Chief Justice, Dame emphasized the significant public interest in the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

"In light of the public interest in the cases concerning the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2024 (the Bill), I recommend that the media (including radio and television) be granted full access to the relevant courts to cover all proceedings in those cases related to the Bill," Dame wrote.

He added that such transparency would enhance the administration of justice.

He specifically mentioned that cases at both the Supreme Court and High Court will address the legality of the bill.

Currently, four cases regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill have been filed at various court levels.

Two cases will be heard at the High Court, and two at the Supreme Court. One of the High Court cases is scheduled for later today in the General Jurisdiction 8 courtroom.
