Court to hear General Legal Council versus law students exam tussle June 20

The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court has set 20 June 2019 to hear an injunction application filed by seven law students against the General Legal Council, the Ghana School of Law, the Independent Examinations Committee and the Board of Legal Education.

The students failed their exam are pushing for an extension of time for their re-sit.

The students argue that the 10-day period given them by the GLC for the re-sit is inadequate and a travesty of justice.

While they battle the matter out in court, the GLC is conducting the re-sit which began on Monday, 17 June 2019.

The lawyer for the defendants, Mr Kizito Beyuo, argued that his clients were short-served per the rules, as they were served in the late afternoon of 13 June 2019. He added that as a result, they are yet to file a response.

The counsel for the aggrieved students, Mr Akoto Ampaw raised concerns about the continuing exam but the judge intimated that she will not get into the merit of the case as her focus is on the injunction application.

The case was adjourned to Thursday, 20 June 2019 for hearing.
