The overlord of Anlo State, Torgbe Sri III has revealed in an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com’s Fred Duhoe that he has not been consulted in any way as far as the partitioning of the boundaries of Volta Region is concerned.
“I neither have knowledge of what is going on nor have I been consulted. If the creation of Oti Region is to satisfy political quest, I’m totally against it unless it’s to serve the interest of the people. If people need development, the government must be committed to that and not necessarily splitting the region”
“I’m not a politically orientated person that’s why any political party that comes into power, I will support it. Any government put into power by the majority of the people must be supported. I’m yet to know the merits and demerits of this whole proposed creation of new region”. Torgbe Sri III said.
He continued “Maybe because we are not being considered as part of the process that’s why we are being left out. This whole issue is a dicey one and whatever majority of my people or chiefs have said, I’m for it. People make comments out of political conviction and that’s not my way of assessing issues”. I don’t look at things through a political lens. The voice of the majority must be considered”, he added
Torgbe Sri III who superintend over 15 traditional areas under his paramouncy hopes the interest of the majority of the people they (chiefs) represent must always reign supreme to individual opinions and with that, everyone is happy.
According to him, he is exercising caution in commenting on issues of this nature because of how polarised the Ghanaian political system is.
