Criminal gangs threatening livestock industry in Ketu South

Dodorkope (V/R), Dec. 7, GNA - Criminal gangs are stealing large number of livestock in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, thereby causing panic among farmers.

Mr. Albert Wedzi, Dodorkope Assembly Member who made this known during the District Farmers Day celebration on Friday at Dodorkope, called on the security agencies to come to the aid of the people. Togbi Addo VIII, Paramount Chief of Klikor, who chaired the function, said he had lost 11 goats to the gangs this year. Sixteen farmers were awarded at the function, which comprised Mr. Christopher Davor of Gemadzra, who was adjudged the District Best Farmer. He received Wellington boots, cutlasses, a bicycle, a deep freezer and a wax print.

Mr. Frank Amable, District Chief Executive appealed to land owners to release land for the Youth- In Agriculture Programme. He asked the youth to embrace the scheme to improve their wellbeing and the country's food security. About 800 farmers from the Ketu South and North Districts he said, had received training and listed to benefit from loans to boost production, under the Millennium Development Programme.
