Cuba trained Ghanaian Doctors and Associates organises health

Yamoransa (C/R), May 16, GNA - La Vanguardia, an Association of Cuba Trained Ghanaian graduate doctors and Associates at the weekend screened about 1,500 people from Yamoransa and the its environs for ailments at Yamoransa near Cape Coast.

They also offered free medication to the beneficiaries of the programme. The team comprised 10 Cuban and six Ghanaian doctors, nurses and pharmacists.


Dr Kofi Amedi, Leader of the team said La Vanguardia had been offering free health screening at places where the people had no access to health facilities.


He said members had operated in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, New Edubiase, Takyimantia in Tano South District and Weija in Ga South.


Dr Amedi commended Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive and Mrs Comfort Garbrah, Assemblywoman for Yamoransa who facilitated the medical outreach programme in the area. Dr Amedi said a report from the Assembly Member indicated that a clinic constructed by the Municipal Assembly for the people of Yamoransa about seven years ago was still lying idle.

He appealed to the Ghana Health Service to put the clinic to use without further delay. The medical team noted that malaria, water-borne diseases, worm infestations hypertension and upper respiratory tract infections were the common diseases afflicting the people.


Dr Amedi said the team had referred people whose ailments were serious to nearby hospitals for attention.


He commended the Ministry of Health and some private pharmaceutical companies for donating drugs to the team to service the people.
