Bolgatanga (Upper East) 13 Aug. ?99

The Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) and health authorities in the region have jointly organised a farewell reception for four Cuban medical doctors, who have ended a two-year service in the region.

The four doctors, a gynaecologist, physician, paediatrician and a surgical specialist, all served in the regional hospital at Bolgatanga.

Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper East Regional Minister expressed appreciation and gratitude to the doctors on behalf of the chiefs and people of the region, for their dedicated services.

He noted that there were critical times when they had to work extra hours to save precious lives, and hoped that the next batch of Cuban doctors would continue to render such priceless services to the people of the area.

The Regional Minister said Ghana would continue to support Cubans in the call for the lifting of economic sanctions that have been imposed on the country by the United States of America.

Dr Julio C. Farinas, gynaecologist and leader of the team, thanked the chiefs and people of the region for their warm hospitality and reception.

He said they would have a lasting impression about Ghana and the Upper East Region in particular, and hoped that the same kind of co-operation would be extended to the next team of Cuban doctors that would be posted to the region.
