Curfew Breakers Arrested

Security agencies at Yendi in the Northern Region have arrested 18 people for breaking the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the Dagbon Traditional Area following the communal violence at Tamale. The Yendi Divisional Commander of Police, Chief Superintendent James Bruce says all the arrested persons have been granted police bail to appear before the Yendi Circuit Court on Monday.

Chief Superintendent Bruce says the Yendi District Security Committee has met executive members of the NPP, NDC, PNC as well as the Reform Party in the Yendi Constituency and appealed to them to preach peace as part of efforts to maintain the existing calm.

The curfew hours were extended from 6pm to 6am this week following clashes between NPP and NDC youths at Tamale that threatened the already fragile peace in the Dagbon Traditional Area. At least four people have been killed in the Tamale clashes.

Yendi witnessed bloody clashes in March last year in which about 40 people, including the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II were killed.
