Accra, Nov. 16, GNA - The government announced on Friday that the curfew in the Anloga township and its environs has been extended for another seven days with immediate effect.
A statement signed by Mrs. Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Minister of Information and National Orientation, in Accra said the duration of the curfew remained 8 pm to 5 am (2000 to 0500 hours).
"Government appreciates that calm and tranquility have since returned to the area and also acknowledges the cooperation of the elders and people of Anloga and surrounding areas," it said. However, the government said, the extension had become necessary to ensure that the present state of security and the peace was sustained. The government warned that anyone who contravened the directive would face the full rigours of the law.
The government imposed the curfew following clashes between the police and youths who were opposed the installation of Togbi Sri III as Awoamefia.
At least five people died in the clashes.
