The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that customers using Nuri prepayment meters no longer need to purchase power for a full month.

This follows the successful completion of the Token Identifier (TID) rollover process, which is part of an upgrade to ensure the meters' continued functionality.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, ECG's General Manager of External Communications, Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, disclosed this in a recent interview with the Daily Graphic.

He explained that the upgrade process was necessary to align the Nuri meters with the Standard Transfer Specification (STS) protocol, ensuring effective operation and uninterrupted vending services.

Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku assured customers that ECG is committed to a seamless upgrade and encouraged those whose meters are yet to be updated to contact ECG for assistance.

"This milestone is part of an essential upgrade to ensure continued functionality of the Nuri Prepayment Meters. Customers whose meters are yet to be upgraded are urged to contact ECG to arrange for the necessary updates," he stated.

He also acknowledged customer concerns raised after the initial announcement and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.

Charles Nii Ayiku noted that significant progress had been made, particularly in areas like Prampram, Accra East, Accra West, and Tema, with most meters in these regions already upgraded. ECG remains focused on completing the remaining upgrades swiftly.

"The company is urging Nuri customers experiencing challenges topping up their electricity credit or whose meters are yet to be upgraded to reach out for assistance through various channels," he stated.

In an earlier statement on Saturday, November 23, 2024, ECG advised customers to purchase sufficient top-up credit for at least one month to avoid potential disruptions during the upgrade process.

"Please buy enough top-up credit that will last for at least one month in order not to experience vending disruptions that might arise out of the ongoing Nuri meter upgrading exercise," part of the statement read.
